Sexually transmitted infections are currently leading to major public health problems. The objective of the research
is to determine the knowledge and attitudes of students about sexually transmitted infections in an educational
institution in the province of Barranca. The study was descriptive and cross-sectional, with a total of 86 students,
to whom a questionnaire was applied, validated by expert judges and with prior informed consent approved by
the ethics committee. In the results, 54.8% of the students surveyed had medium knowledge, 27.4% had high
knowledge, while 17.9% had low knowledge. In terms of attitude, 75.6% showed a positive attitude towards the
transmission of STIs (they seek to prevent STIs), 15.1% of the students had an indifferent attitude and 9.3% had a
negative attitude (they do not consider preventive measures to avoid STIs). It was concluded that the students of
this educational institution have an average knowledge of the subject, as well as a positive attitude towards the
prevention of STI transmission.
