Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the impact of the insufficiency of minimum remuneration on the dignity and equality of workers in Peru, addressing economic and social aspects. The methodology was based on a qualitative approach, with a cross-sectional design that collected data at a single moment and an exhaustive review of relevant bibliographic references. The results indicated that the minimum wage in Peru, by not adjusting frequently enough, fails to keep up with the cost of living. Furthermore, the analysis of national and international reports revealed that this insufficiency affects the social and nutritional well-being of workers and their families, who experienced dissatisfaction at not being able to achieve a decent life despite their efforts. Compared to Chile, Mexico, Ecuador and Spain, which make annual salary adjustments based on inflation and the cost of the basic basket, Peru shows a significant lag. This gap in updating the minimum wage, which is carried out every two or four years, intensifies social inequalities and undermines the perception of dignity at work. The findings underline the need for a salary policy that ensures fair remuneration and promotes social equity.
